Where Deals Get Made: A Look Inside the AFCM Marketplace

Every business deal needs a professional space to happen. For the first AFRIFF Film and Content Market (AFCM), that space is Twin Waters, Lagos. This wasn't a random choice; it's a strategic decision designed to give African creators a home-field advantage. Here’s a breakdown of how the venue is built to help you do business.

Your Map to Making Deals: Understanding the Floor Plan

The market floor at Twin Waters is designed like a map to help you find opportunities. During the seminar, AFCM's Technical and Operations Director, Julian Nwagboniwe, walked attendees through the layout, which is broken down into key areas:

  • The Global Gateway: This is where you’ll find the large, 6x6 meter premium booths for international groups from countries like Brazil, Japan, and Germany. These areas will be the main hubs for anyone looking to set up co-production deals and international sales.

  • Nollywood's Power Hub: This section is where you will find booths for established Nigerian production companies and the big industry guilds, like the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN). They can book a variety of spaces (from 3x3 to 3x9 meters) to use as a "home base" for meetings and to showcase the strength of our local industry.

  • The Launchpad for New Talent: For independent creators, there are smaller, accessible booths (like 2x3 meters) and tables. This area is the "engine room of discovery"—the perfect spot for new talent to get noticed, show off their projects, and make the connections that could lead to their first big break.

The Tools of the Trade: Spaces Designed for Deals

Beyond the booths, the venue has special areas set up specifically for making deals happen.

  • The Screening Rooms: These rooms are a key sales tool. They are not for casual movie-watching. Instead, a producer can book a slot at a premium, medium, or standard-sized screen to show their film or trailer to a private room full of the right people—buyers, investors, and festival programmers.

  • The Meeting Zones: There will also be dedicated areas just for holding private, one-on-one meetings. These quiet spaces are essential for the focused conversations needed to negotiate a contract, finalise a partnership, or secure funding for a project.

An Environment Built for Your Business

The choice of Twin Waters is simple: it’s a functional, professional environment where every part of the space is designed to help you do business. As Julian explained, booking a booth comes with benefits like all-access badges and a spot in the official market brochure. The infrastructure is ready. Be there to make it work for you.
